What Is the BLS Skills Session?

The BLS Skills Session is a hands-on testing session designed for healthcare providers who have already completed the HeartCode BLS online course through the American Heart Association. This in-person session validates your practical skills so you can earn your full AHA BLS Provider certification. CPR Skills Check

Demonstrate high-quality CPR on adult, child, and infant manikins under instructor observation.

Session Format

45 Min - 1 Hour Skills Test Only

This is a hands-on skills validation session only. There is no classroom lecture component. You will demonstrate CPR, AED use, and bag-mask ventilation skills to an AHA-certified instructor.

Prerequisite Required

HeartCode BLS Online

You must complete the HeartCode BLS online course through the AHA before attending this skills session. Bring your online course completion certificate to your appointment. If you have not completed the online course, you need the full BLS Provider course instead.

What You Receive

AHA eCard

Upon successful completion, you receive an official AHA BLS Provider eCard valid for two years. This is the same certification issued in the full BLS Provider classroom course and is accepted by all employers and licensing boards.

BLS Skills Session Questions

The BLS Skills Session is an in-person, hands-on testing session where you demonstrate CPR, AED, and bag-mask ventilation skills to an AHA-certified instructor. It is designed for healthcare providers who have already completed the HeartCode BLS online course and need to complete the skills check portion to earn their full AHA BLS Provider certification.

You must bring your HeartCode BLS online course completion certificate. This is proof that you have completed the cognitive portion of the BLS course online. Without it, you will not be able to take the skills test. If you have not completed the online course, you will need to register for the full BLS Provider classroom course instead.

The BLS Skills Session typically takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. The session focuses entirely on hands-on skills validation with no classroom lecture component, making it a quick and efficient way to finish your BLS certification.

Yes. Upon successful completion of the BLS Skills Session, you receive the same official AHA BLS Provider eCard that is issued in the full classroom course. It is valid for two years and accepted by all employers and licensing boards nationwide.

If you do not pass the skills check on your first attempt, the instructor will provide feedback and allow you to practice before retesting.
